Saki 264: 3 Turns

One thing that's been hinted but not mentioned in these last two chapters is that Seiko and Awai seem to be very close. Probably knowing each other since before entering high school. This might explain why Awai is always kinda harsh when teasing Seiko. Especially since Awai is younger, she should be a bit more respectful but if they have known each other for a while then it's not so strange. It would also fit with Teru choosing players that get along well rather than the best 5.

  2. Thank you!

I read Teru's flashback more as her players who don't show their potential in their results, rather than players who get along. The school and coaches were definitely looking for players who get along though.

    2. It makes me curious on how Shiraitodai actually manages their club. We know that management prefers players that get along, and we know that teams are "theme-based" and face off against each other to become the school's representative. What makes it interesting is that in Teru's flashback she's seen coaching the entire club, so unless she stopped doing that, those with potential should be among the top players of the school. If we take what Akado mentioned in Side-B in account -- where Shiraitodai's representing team doesn't necessarily contain the top 5 players-- then it makes one wonder how these teams are formed.

If I recall from a very old chapter (chapter 56), Teru's current team in this tournament was described as second string. My little headcanon is that Teru picked players not because of ability, but because of the club's growth once Sumire and Teru graduate.

    3. I think it's a combination of hidden potential and being compatible with each other. Teru didn't just pick Seiko and Awai because they get along but surely their friendship played a part.

    4. We have seen a few instances of players gaining power as a team: lap-pillow Toki, Shindouji duo, Yuu powering up when her little sister cries, Saki was able to hear Nodoka's voice (yuri telepathy is canon), so I can see it playing a role, even if it is just to make the team stronger.

About ch 56, I don't know Japanese, but I've seen multiple translations get very different interpretations of the line. The anime made the most sense which is (paraphrasing) "even the second string team is still considered a powerhouse in the prefecture". Her promoting her team's growth aligns with her motivations though, so I'd believe it.
