Saki 207: World-shaking

There was a new blog post by Ritz a couple of days ago. Nothing much but Ritz was making corrections for the tank release and there was this panel with superdeformed versions of Saki and Nodoka in chapter 202. Ritz says: "I have a feeling that the magazine version which only took me one minute to draw has a bit more flavor...". Well, judge for yourselves.

"corrected" version for the tank

You'll notice one or two rough panels in the last few pages. It seems that Ritz got stuck drawing Ako's first appearance and run out of time... It's not too bad though.

  2. I like Nodoka's SD version, but Saki is a bit weird, feels like it came out from some gag manga from the 90s.

I like Kuro getting a bit overpowered. She was the most well developed character from Achiga and even had to throw away a part of herself, but we mostly saw her get trashed in the Nationals, so I think she deserves to reap the results now.

  4. Also, I think these are the current scores (if anyone is curious)
    Kiyosumi 110700
    Shiraitodai 105300
    Rinkai 94800
    Achiga 89200

  5. its feels weird that i support straight pair like kyoutaro and tacos so much, just because i feels like the authors really forced same-sex relationships or maybe just hating men sooo much (the mother are virgins if they can, really ritz?)

and i was a frequent visitors of dynasty scans Too

    1. Forced? Hating? Where do you get that from?
Some mothers are virgins because ips cell technology allows it. In 10 or 20 years, this will be possible in our world too. It's just sci-fi.

    2. The "even all mothers are virgin" part do feel very forced though. At the very least, we know Saki and Nodoka have fathers, so saying their parents married and never did it is hard to believe.
Sure, it's her story, so she can say it's truth, but that doesn't mean we can't find it weird.

    3. Not only it is weird but very unrealistic too. Ritz herself said so. But there is no way to keep everyone happy. If she says this or that character have boyfriends, people will complain. If she says this or that one are virgins, people will complain. And people will keep asking and asking. So screw it, everyone's a virgin. End of story.

In a more recent post, Ritz said more than half the characters are a product of same-sex relationships, which means the rest aren't. You can put Saki, Nodoka and whoever you like in that second group if you want. But is that really so important in the first place?

    4. "It's just a world where same-sex relationship is normal/not looked down upon" just think of it this way and everything will look fine and dandy. Well I do admit it seems like Ritz isn't keen on drawing many male character.

While I'm at it, page 10 has a typo "I could be", and page 13 "can never/can't ever"

Disappointed to see that Saki is back to "one chapter a month" again .

  7. I hope that at least Sergeants' are free from the achigawank, it's getting a little grating.

  8. It's been years that the manga has been running, but people forgot that kiyosumi are god and myth slayers with high base luck with east wind, waits, probability, and rinshan.. Mako too with her library of experience

Now, Yuuki breaks her limits and gave us 2 tenhou. After analysing everything, Satoha now knows when to attack and defend. Teru also uses her mirror to know everything and gave consecutive wins that lead to a chuuren with possible yakumans to win. Is it wrong for Kuro to get a power up? Of course not (in my opinion). Besides, her power has lots of restriction and risk to pull that off.

In achiga, if we exclude the bad pacing of the show that lead it to asspull situation, they have already been preparing and studying as a team for a year which is 6 months earlier than kiyosumi. They also have a good foundation from their coach when they were kids. So let us just accept the powers like we accept the yuri thing, boobies, and non existent undergarments.

    1. The bad pacing in Achiga was due to the deadline imposed by the anime. Ritz and Aguri had to create and draw the story in a very short time. Lots of things had to be skipped or shortened.

But yeah, I agree Achiga trained for much longer than any other team and they have a better coach than most, so it's not that surprising they are a strong team. They only thing they don't have is reputation. Compared to Shiraitodai, Senriyama, Rinkai, etc. which have big reputation, Achiga is a total dark horse. That and the poor foreshadowing in Achiga makes us think they must be weak and stay always weak.

That said, I would wait until the end of the vanguard match to see how Kuro's powerup compares to Teru or Satoha. Despite what she's done, Kuro is still last and they all have one dealership left so many things can happen still.

  9. Oh. So that's why.. I'm pretty new with this anime (3-4months back) compare to the others and I watched it backwards. Achiga -> saki since it was randomly recommended by kissanime. Pretty suprise that there was anime about mahjong of all things.
