I wrote something below but it contains spoilers so don't read it before reading the chapter!
Enjoy:
Saki ch188 (Mega)Saki ch188 (Mediafire)
Spoilers for the chapter
The final scores should be:
Senriyama 120600
Shindouji 117500
Himematsu 116800
Usuzan 45100
So assuming there are no hidden riichi sticks involved, Senriyama should be the winner of this match and take 5th place overall! I guess that's the result most readers expected? It was either Senriyama or Himematsu anyway. Now we can finally head to the long-awaited final!!!
To expand a little on what Himeko says in page 11:
If a round ends with no one winning the "normal" way (after all tiles from the wall have been drawn), a player not in tenpai must always say "noten" but a player in tenpai can choose whether to say "tenpai" or "noten".
The tenpai/noten announcements must be made starting from the East player (the dealer), and then in order South, West and North. Kyouko (the dealer) would have to make her announcement first, without knowing if Ryuuka is in tenpai or not.
If Kyouko says "tenpai", the match would go to the bonus round where she would get hit by Himeko's Sanbaiman and finish 3rd (if Himeko wins by tsumo, Kyouko would have to pay double because she is the dealer).
If Kyouko says "noten", the match ends right there. However, if Ryuuka was in tenpai, given the current scores, Himematsu would get overtaken by Senriyama and finish 2nd (regardless of what the other two players say). Still, that's better than being 3rd.
Himeko's Sanbaiman is not enough for her to take 1st place unless Ryuuka was the only player in South 4 not in tenpai. In that case, Ryuuka would have to pay 3000 points (1000 to each player) and her score would get low enough to get overtaken by Himeko in the bonus round.
So the "normal" conditions for Himeko to win the match are:
1) South 4 ends without a winner (unlikely).
2) Kyouko announces "tenpai" at the end of South 4 (stupid so she won't say it).
3) Kyouko, Sawaya and Himeko are all in tenpai but Ryuuka is not (unlikely).
On the other hand, if the round ends without a winner because everyone's first discard is the same wind tile (as it happens in the chapter), then according to the Interhigh rules, the match goes to the bonus round automatically.
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWho’s the girl on the cover?
This chapter’s ending was pretty exciting! But I have this nagging feeling that this has happened before (but probably in a different situation), but I can’t remember when. Is my mind just playing games with me?
The girl on the cover... good question, nobody knows! Some say she looks like Mayuko Tajihi, the girl who was defeated by Awai at the West Tokyo qualifiers. But why would she appear now, I wonder. She might also be a new character and we'll find out in an upcoming chapter.
DeleteHappened before? Could be. Between Saki, Achiga, Shinohayu... there's been a lot of matches but I don't know which one could resemble this one.
The 1st person that came into my mind when I saw her was Mayuko due to the hairstyle. Might be someone else but the resemblance is there.
DeleteThe location of the cover art is near the Kamo River in Kyoto, according to some online fans who posted photos taken there. There has never been a Saki storyline set in Kyoto, so the girl is likely a new character. Mayuko is a Tokyo girl, so while it looks like her, it would be a bit strange to draw a minor character in a random location. Some are speculating it could be a young version of Saki's mother or grandmother, who were last mentioned in reporter Nishida's revelations in chapter 166. We also know that Saki's father is from Fukui Prefecture, which is adjacent to Kyoto Prefecture. The photo could be foreshadowing an upcoming Miyanaga family flashback, which would make sense because the next match is the vanguard round of the finals which includes Teru.
DeleteWell, it seems like Ryuuka calculated everything and Kyouko again was somewhat fked up by some occasional stuff :)
ReplyDeleteThx for translations :)
Yuuki's interhigh quarterfinal match, 1st hanchan, East second round, had the four winds draw possibility come up. Yuuki could have declared double riichi, but since the leftover tile in her hand was the fourth west, she couldn't.
ReplyDeleteAs for the match-ending rules, there was new information in this chapter, namely that "tenpai yame" (the dealer in the last round choosing to end the game despite being tenpai during an exhaustive draw) is not allowed in the interhigh.
Thanks for the info about Yuuki's four winds draw.
DeleteWe know nothing about the official rules but the last dealer can choose to not announce tenpai after an exhaustive draw according to Himeko's thoughts.
Wow...wasn't expecting both suufon and ending within a chapter.
ReplyDeleteKyouko immediately regrets her discard choice with that despair look.
Thanks for the translation!!
I wish we could see more of Usuzan. Do we know if Maaya or Sawaya will take part in the individual tournaments? Or rather, is there some list of the characters that we know for sure that will be on it?
ReplyDeleteSame here. I was hoping that Usuzan would somehow end up winning. So tired of Senriyama and Himematsu.
DeleteI think that Maaya will be in the individual tournament though. Wasn't Usuzan main point for participating in the tournament to make Maaya be a bigger idol then Hayari and the way the vice-captain match ended I think a Maaya and Nodoka rematch will happen. Hopefully Sawaya will also participate in the individual. Want to see more of her gods and cloud. Plus I'm really hoping Sawaya goes up against Jindai so we could get a battle of the gods.
I think both Maya and Sawaya will be in the individuals.
DeleteVery good chapter, I'm glad this 5th place match is finally over (it was good but I didn't care about the result) .
ReplyDeleteMaya being in the individuals is already confirmed by her team members if my memory is right . Not sure about Sawaya; but I think she will since Ritz hints she have others spririts in her sleeve .
I can't wait for the finals, I want to see more Rinkai especially Nelly .
When I think about it, maybe that girl on the cover is Saki during middle school XD
