This chapter's title page seems connected to the one from the last Saki chapter. Since Shino used to live in Yokohama and Uta is also from Yokohama, I guess it's possible they crossed paths at some point without noticing each other. It's also funny to compare the same Shino drawn by Aguri and drawn by Ritz.
The chapter's title, needless to say, was already like that in the original. It literally means "bad luck bird" in German. Hmm... bird, huh?

I like putting chapter's notes here because it's easy for me to edit them if I need to. And if this helps someone notice some extra little detail or understand something that wasn't clear enough in the chapter, then I'm glad.
Chapter's notes
- Reviewing the East 2 Bonus 4 Hand
Chapter 62, page 11: Yuzu reaches tenpai. Her wait is the 1m. Suddenly, Chihiro calls a pon that doesn't seem to help her and Aina's turn is skipped. The tile that would have gone to Aina, goes to Shino. That tile is the 1m. Shino thinks Chihiro is "attacking" but in fact she only prevented Aina from getting the 1m. Aina had previously called riichi so if she had gotten that 1m, she would have dealt into Yuzu's hand.
- The East 3 Bonus 2 Hand
For Chihiro, the difference between winning with the 4m or the pei (north) is that the 4m gives 2fu (for a total of 30 fu) and the pei gives 4fu (total of 32 fu). Because of the fuhane (rounding up the fu), the 32fu become 40fu, and the number of points gets higher. All of Chihiro's hands so far have been 1 han 30 fu, so the 40fu would disturb her dealer repeats, apparently.
At leastin Finnish, the equivalent of "Pechvogel" is "pahanilmanlintu", literally "bad weather bird".
ReplyDeleteI wonder how thoroughly Ritz/Igarashi did their research.
I guess they're just using a word that means "unlucky person" but also has the word "bird" in it. But that's good to know, about the Finnish equivalent. Thanks.
DeleteGo go Shino :)
ReplyDeleteThx for translations.
The two similar cover pages are very nice, but Shino’s shoes are different! Tsk, tsk! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hadn't even noticed.
