I think you’ve doubled it twice? It was 8k/16k, so Nelly (the dealer) paid 16k. Nelly gained a net of 46,600 in this chapter including the two riichi sticks already on the table at the start. More if someone declared riichi in honba 2.
She wouldn’t have announced it as “8300/16300” if it were a direct hit payable by a single person. But yeah, the closed kan shown on the last page serves as further proof.
Besides, calculations in another comment thread down below have established that Saki must have riichi to obtain this score, which forbids her from declaring open kan of any sort and in particular from calling “kan” on anyone’s discard.
Thanks for the chapter. In Sakiverse a momentary hesitation can disrupt the flow in Yayoi's case. Ryuuka didn't have Toki so she was unmotivated. I wonder how Nelly will be targeted?
Was the score from the first hand a mistake in the raws? It should be 12100 since it's bonus 1.
Also wow, all the buildup just for Nelly's powers to get destroyed in one chapter. And to think her power worked against her in this last situation since the worst person got a kazoe yakuman.
The last 2 sisters that get destroyed in page 13, one is for Awai and one for Shizu (you can tell by the different effects). No more sisters left so Saki won.
At first I wondered why was Saki the one who won a hand in the end. Then it hit me. It's the drawing order. Even the one who was fated to win was the first to draw. Once blocked, the next one to draw is the next fated winner. That's why there were more than 1 fated to win in 1 turn.
Oh wow, it's not shown but Saki barely got her counted yakuman by calling riichi and getting 4 ura doras from her 4 kan tiles. Wished Ritz had shown Saki declaring riichi because I was scratching my head figuring out how she got a yakuman with her hand without it lol.
Yeah the one missing han is problem. I'm not sure if the tournament ruleset in Saki allows flipping the dora indicator on a kan draw that will be used as tsumo (i.e. rinshan kaihou). I don't recall that ever happening in any of the chapters anyways. Imo the only valid way Saki could get a counted yakuman in this case is with riichi, and with the ura dora indicator being 8-man.
Oh, it was shown indeed. Yeah, riichi and ura it is.
As far as I’m aware (as far as I’ve heard elsewhere), Mahjong Soul only flips the next dora indicator after the discard for _open_ kan. Every rule set I’m aware of flips it immediately for closed kan, which this one is.
To be fair the closed/open kan dora distinction isn't too consistent in Saki. Most of Saki's closed-kan rinshan tsumos are won without flipping a second dora indicator. The one contradicting exception that I could find to this was in the semi-finals, ch 152, when she won a baiman. Her closed-kan had flipped a third dora indicator (second dora indicator was flipped by Sawaya's earlier kan).
The rules are very interesting to think about for me lol
Judging by the players' points at the end of the chapter, it appears Shizuno is in danger. Awai and Saki will likely try to prevent Shizuno's points from dropping to zero or below in the following chapters. It's possible Saki will help Shizuno when her points are low, as she did in the Nagano finals.
Thinking about it, those first two statues breaking bothers me a bit. I'm wondering how deliberate the wording of "When my opponent's fate is to win the hand, they sacrifice themselves to protect me from that outcome." It seemed like the statues broke on Nelly's draw right after Saki and Awai's riichis, which means the statues protected her from that fate by giving her a win then and there instead of giving them non-winning tiles like what Shizuno or the monocle girl can do. But then the last one was clearly an instance of "Shizuno and Awai would have gotten tsumo if not for Nelly" which makes more sense to me. I guess maybe it was done this way to say that Nelly's ability can't change outcomes that other people can sense like Saki's ability to sense kans and the rinshan tile, so the only way to protect Nelly from fate the first time was to win? I dunno, it feels a bit wishy-washy how the power works. Like what if you had some monster like Teru getting a double riichi? Would Nelly only need one statue to save her, or could Teru potentially blow through all 7 at once because her luck's so strong all the statues could do was block her winning tile 7 times.
Good question but I don't think Ritz makes a distinction between giving Nelly a winning tile and giving her opponents a non-winning tile. Sometimes it's one, other times the other. Whatever needs to happen, happens.
The important thing is that if the statues weren't there, an opponent would win the hand instead of Nelly. So the statues always "disable" her opponents' wins, one way or the other.
For the last part, I don't think Teru or anyone would blow through all 7 statues at once. I think if a statue "disables" an opponent's win is meant to be for the whole hand, not just for one winning tile. That's just a guess though.
I agree, it's phrased to sound like Nelly disables the opponents win somehow. Llikely she probably did not let anyone on her team know about this power, otherwise it would've been a strong counter to Teru and Rinkai would've done better putting her as vanguard.
Even facing Teru, she would of face 3 opponent as well. So the 7 statues are not worth putting in effort agaisn't Teru, especially if she have to lose 1 statue per round for Teru. She would have been without anything at S4 and the 2nd hanchan as well AND that without any renchan.
This makes it look like Nelly loses, but really, she still won about 46k points this chapter.^^ Thanks for the translation.
ReplyDeleteNo. Because Nelly was the dealer, she lost double, which would be 32k. That means cutting a difference of 64k points

DeleteIt was a kan direct hit on Nelly, so she took the full 32900
DeleteIt wasn't a daminkan, it was an ankan. So there is no responsible one pay rule in effect.

Right, it's 12100. I somehow missed the 100. It's fixed now.
Deletewhen the next chapter of saki coming in november?
Delete21st of november. Translation a few days later, I guess.
Deletei dont understand. can you explain to me how exactly saki has been able to score against nelly despite having the 7 sisters protecting her?
DeleteThe last 2 sisters that get destroyed in page 13, one is for Awai and one for Shizu (you can tell by the different effects). No more sisters left so Saki won.

ReplyDeleteRinshan tsumo junchan sanshoku dora 6 makes it yakuman so not necessarily need Riichi. Certainly lucky with the dora.
DeleteBut even though 9m is the Kan Dora, I only counted 5 Doras in total. I'm wondering if the author wrote the wrong score?
DeleteYeah the one missing han is problem.
DeleteYou could have 9m and 9s be the (non-ura) dora and kan dora, giving six dora tiles.
DeleteI’m not aware of any rule set where the kan dora indicator would not be flipped immediately upon a concealed kan declaration.
Either way, though, she does seem to need plenty of dora and it’s odd that they aren’t shown.
Dora indicator was shown to be 2s at start, so 6 Dora is impossible without both riichi and the immediate Dora flip after kan.
DeleteMahjong Soul uses a ruleset that flips the Dora after discarding the kan draw, so rinshan kaihou doesn't get extra Dora in that game.
Oh, it was shown indeed. Yeah, riichi and ura it is.

Interesting, didn't realize there was a difference between open and closed kans when it came to dora indicators. My bad.

Awai still has the 7th killer move, which I hope she will win a tsumo dealer Yakuman. If it happen, Sizuno score will be 0 and that's gonna be fun. L
