Ritz-sensei's blog post 19.05.08

A new post on Ritz's blog was published yesterday. After many months, finally some answers to reader's questions. Actually, Ritz only answered 3 questions but she dropped quite the bombshell. This is what she has to say:

Homosexual characters
I haven't counted but I feel like more than half the characters are homosexual. Including some married characters. And I think about 20% of those are bisexual. More than half the characters are children of woman x woman relationships (created through methods like iPS cells and the like). Also, in this world, same-sex marriage is possible.

Swimsuit models
There are very few girls of school age who perform as swimsuit magazine models. Only Shiori-san and one other character who has not been introduced yet. But there are many who perform as non-swimsuit clothed models. Even so, in their 3rd year, and once the Interhigh and the Kokuma have ended. The readers of bikini model magazines are almost generally female. The photographers and the editorial staff are also all female. But me, I want to marry Tsubakino-san.

Note: Unozawa Shiori is one of Teru's former teammates at Shiraitodai. The Kokuma is a mahjong tournament that takes place in autumn after the Interhigh. Tsubakino Miyuki is one of the Kentani players.

Sumire's socks
Hirose Sumire wears tights. Elementary school Nodoka wears knee-high socks.

Then apparently someone wrote to Ritz asking if all the above is true. Ritz replies:
If you don't believe what I said in the previous post, why would you believe me now if I say, "Yes, it is true"? What I wrote here and what I wrote 2 years ago in the post of December 27th, normally it's all meant to be the completely official scenario. I'm not saying anything extreme.

Note: The post from 2 years ago is the one where Ritz said all characters were virgins, even the mothers and grandmothers.

To summarize, it appears that in the world of Saki, a majority of the population is homosexual. Or at least, this is true for the part of the population who plays mahjong, which is very large since mahjong is a very big deal there. Children are then born mostly from lesbian relationships through artificial methods such as iPS cells (something which is not yet possible in the real world but might be someday). This explains why most women are virgins, even the mothers. Additionally, the majority of consumers of bikini model magazines are women, not men. And those who create those magazines are women too. Such is the world of Saki according to Ritz.

  1. This much "info" "unrelated" to the manga, almost feels like reading JK Rowling tweets.

  2. Ok, now Ritz needs to answer the most important question: how do I get into that wonderful world?

  3. Except this bombshell doesn't make sense. Nodoka and Yuki in the manga were talking about the IPS as if this technology was not yet developed. Does Sakiverse have a time machine too to allow half the cast to be born with it before it is even invented? And if everyone is so gay, you'd think that in 10 years of this manga running and in multiple spinoffs that would've been a single kiss.
Gotta generate the hype to sell the Mako manga somehow, I suppose.

    1. Nodoka clearly says "It seems that by using iPS cells, even same-sex couples can have children." That's in Vol. 5, extra chapter. However, the English fan translation mistranslated the sentence so I understand your confusion. More importantly, this just proves that Ritz already had this kind of world in mind since many years ago.

And what does kissing have to do with being gay? Do you think gays are the only ones who kiss? Saki is simply not the kind of manga that features kissing, that's all.

    2. And apparently not the king of manga that features pantsu.

  4. ''The readers of bikini model magazines are almost generally female.''

  5. What's the story behind Sumire's socks? Seems kinda random to be answered lol, unless I'm missing something here. Also Ritz did a good job justifying her answers. Guess most man are also homosexual as well there or died a virgin.

    Thanks for the translation!!

    1. It's from one of the Saki games. There is a picture where Sumire's skirt goes up and she appears to be wearing high socks which are supposed to be tights.

    2. Huh. Never questioned myself that before even though I played that. Thanks for the clarification.

  6. This was indeed a bombshell. I saw it coming though. Now, my biggest question would be to know who were born by same-sex marriage. I just know Nodoka has a father and maybe Touka and Koromo from what I saw in the first season of the anime. It would be really nice if the Eisui girls were among these science babies... or maybe everyone with super mahjong power are born from that technology. Just saying...

Anyway, this is such great and refreshing thing. I always knew Ritz had something like this in mind but I am glad everything was clarified.

As for Sumire, I have already played the Saki Achiga-hen Portable game and it looks like they gave her socks instead of tights.

  8. It's been some time since this was posted up, but I just want to mention that this explains why there's so many girls in this series' universe. Any society with those parametres will see an explosion in the number of girls born, since a straight couple has a 50-50 chance of having a boy or a girl, a couple of women will always have daughters and a couple of men, depending on how the technology works, either the same 50-50 as the straight couple or one chance in three of having a girl (more like one in four of being a girl and one in four of critical failure, roll again, which simplifies as one in three).
