Shinohayu ch46: A Young Hawk Learns To Hunt

Not the longest chapter but intense. I wonder if we'll see Kanna's match in detail next. It's been forever since we saw Kanna play.

Take a look at the post before this one for a translation of Ritz's latest blog post if you haven't. :)

    1. Yeah, Shino definitely is a famous player during the Saki age. Might even be World Champion or something hehe

    5. I think what Dian Setya means is that in the Pro Mahjong Cards, Sukoya's card is S-01, Uta is S-02 but there is no S-03 so Shino could be #3. But we don't really know what the card numbers mean if they mean anything.

    8. I'm pretty sure it's speculation based on the pro cards numbers.

  4. This is enlightening.... I didn't know there are so many old rules. This also shows how much Shino has grown. Also kinda hope that Ritz will let Shino have her cameo in the main series now. I wanna see her as an adult. Thanks for the translation as usual.

    1. Adult Shino did have a cameo in Saki, well sort of. In the bonus pages of Volume 15.

    4. Yes it's the bonus pages at the end of vol 15. Like the Universal tacos plan was in earlier volumes.

  5. If you think about it, Ritz likes old/chinese rules. If you remember Koromo vs Saki match, there were 3 chinese mahjong yakumans - first one by koromo "Plucking the Moon from the Bottom of the Sea" (she even calls it herself+animation is her plucking the Moon from the bottom of the sea, hehe)- haitei on 1-pin, second and 3rd one by Saki - "Two-Fold Fortune" (well, actually Saki had three-fold fortune, winning by kan on kan on kan, but 2 kans is enough to form a yakuman), and then the last one, which was counted yakuman, but actually is a chinese mahjong yakuman itself - "Gathering the Plumb Blossom from the Roof" - rinshan on 5-pin. So Ritz implying some outdated yakumans/some yakumans from other versions of mahjong is nothing really new =)

    1. Actually! I just checked, first kanchan in that match was made by Yumi-chin and it was on 2-sou, which is ALSO a chinese yakuman called "Scratching a Carrying Pole". So yeah, Ritz likes chinese yakumans and stuff.

    3. That's nice to know, all these chinese yakuman in the Nagano tournament. I totally forgot or didn't know about the Gathering the Plumb Blossom one and the one by Yumi. Thanks.

    4. I don't think it was mentioned anywhere, I just got over rules of chinese classical mahjong somewhere and was pleasantly surprised with that easter egg. :)
