Saki 290: Fate

The Japanese word for 'fate' is made of the kanji for 'life' and 'luck'. Life's luck. Given that the concept of luck plays an important role in the chapter, this is clearly intentional.

  1. If you look at the point difference at the end of the chapter, the situation is somewhat similar to the Nagano final. If you look at the rest of the game, then the biggest chance of winning is Nelly and the smallest is Shizuno. Especially if in the next chapters Nelly gets further away and is difficult for other players to catch. I hope in the next chapter Saki, Awai or Shizuno can steal a fairly large point from Nelly. This seems impossible in Nelly's game.

    1. For reference, let me write the current scores here:
      1st Rinkai (162800), 2nd Kiyosumi (97100), 3rd Shiraitodai (95500), 4th Achiga (44600).
Awai, Shizu and Saki still have their dealerships left.

  2. shizuno ability is to weaken or nullified others power, but cannot help her in terms of winning big

  3. On page 11 doesn't Saki have 1 fewer discard than everyone else? As far as I can tell no one's called or anything

  4. If Awai had pushed, the hand would have been Riichi Ippatsu Pinfu Dora 4 for 18000 points. So she did lose fewer points. I wonder what she noticed at the end?
    Thanks for the translation.

    1. I wonder too. Maybe that Nelly would have won less points total? Or maybe something about her own hand?

    2. Maybe because if she continued to push forward she would still lose 12 000 points, but the point difference with the top would be less.

    3. maybe about nelly's big point hand? if it was, maybe saki and shizuno noticed it too.

    4. I think she notice that Nelly got ura dora, which shouldn't be happened when shizu control the dead wall. so maybe she will challenge Nelly with double riichi next round ?

  6. if 'luck' moves from nelly to saki, is it possible for saki to get as many points as nelly?

    1. I think one of Saki's abilities is to "even out" the score, not just +/- 0, because I've seen her help low-scoring players win big (and stop the one who's controlling the game), and then she'll still win "even out" with the other player. At the end, when the score gap is big enough to make a comeback, she does it to win.

Maybe we'll see Saki fall into Shizuno's hands for purpose and end up with Haneman or Baiman.
